Places to Eat and Drink Down In the Bay
The Laurel Inn
The Laurel Inn is a pub within a few seconds walk from the back-door of Roseworth ! Given it’s en-route to the Muir Lea stores, it’s easy to get ambushed as you pass the Laurel. A really friendly pub, cosy in winter with the open fires and cool and shady in summer it’s a welcome aspect of our own time in the Bay especially given there’s a family room also for the younger children.
Walking Time: 30 seconds
The Bay Hotel
One of our favourite destinations all year round the Bay Hotel has everything we need. Whether it’s our chosen watering hole on the way back from a blisteringly ot beach day, the target for an evening stroll, or the chosen destination for Sunday lunch, we’ve never been disappointed with the pub, the food, or the experience down at the Bay Hotel. A really friendly – child friendly and dog friendly pub.
Walking Time: 5 minutes
The Smugglers Ale House
The Smugglers is a cosy bar with a great atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating right down by the sea. It’s typically our evening escape for grownups when grandparents step in to look after the kids. Really friendly service, and dog friendly too, we’ve often been kidnapped in the Smugglers for ‘just the one nightcap’ after a meal in the Brambles opposite. Smugglers do bar snacks and also do great pizzas to eat in or take out on some days – definitely worth a visit.
Walking Time: 5 minutes
Brambles Bistro
Situated down by the sea-front opposite the Smugglers with indoor and outdoor seating, we love to visit Brambles for top-notch family dining or and even a quiet couples meal if we can escape the children for an hour or three. Friendly owners, excellent food and a perfect seafront location – highly recommended.
Walking Time: 5 minutes
The Fish Box
The Fish Box on the ‘hill’ into the Bay provides the traditional fish-n-chips and all other variations with an extensive food menu, tea/coffee and soft drinks and if you’re lucky, the chance to enjoy the food with panoramic views over the Bay from the terrace. Indoor and outdoor seating, and a popular option for us when in the Bay.
Walking Time: 1 minute
The Cove Cafe Bar
The Cove is spacious cafe blessed with breathtaking views over the Bay. It’s only a short walk from Roseworth towards the beach access via King Street, and we’ve had some wonderful sunny breakfasts on the terrace at the Cove. Evenings also have pizza takeout option if you’ve spent all day on the beach with the kids and want an easy option to pickup on the way back to Roseworth!
Walking Time: 2 minutes
Tea Toast and Post
The ‘Toast’ is a small music-oriented cafe by day and is a bar/music venue by night if you’re lucky enough to be in the Bay when gigs are booked. A mainstay of our morning walks along the beach to Boggle Hole – where the crisp morning air is adorned with the smell of bacon sandwiches and fresh coffee from ‘the Toast’. The doorstep bacon sandwiches are ‘lunch skippers’. Retaining the original post office facade and styling, the ‘Toast’ has a super location at the foot of King Street down by the slipway adjacent to the Bay Hotel.
Walking Time: 5Â minutes
The Bay Fisheries Fishmonger
Bay Fisheries has been a part of the bay for decades. Situated opposite Muir Lea Stores and adjacent to the Laurel Inn the seafood is excellent. Our favourite is the fresh local crab which are caught, boiled and prepared within the premises. For seafood lovers theres also the cockles, mussels, prawns, whelks and so forth. The fresh crab sandwiches are a safe option when taking packup to the beach for the day.
Walking Time: 30 seconds
The Victoria Hotel
The Victoria Hotel on the clifftop provides a touch of class with multiple dining options and some beautiful panoramic views over the Bay to Ravenscar. With breakfast room, bar, restaurant and orangery there are many options. Our particular favourites are the full family breakfast in the Orangery (which is dog friendly), or the outdoor Sunday Lunch during the warmer season. That said the Victoria is a great option for all tastes.
Walking Time: 5Â minutes
Browns Confectionary
Browns Confectionary and Sweet Shop
Browns is a spectacle of chocolate! It’s rare to see Browns without young children’s faces pressed against the glass watching the chocolate fountain or inside the shop staring eyes wide-open at the huge array of high-end confectionary from ice-creams to fizz-bombs. The specialist chocolates are truly unique.
Walking Time: 2 minutes
Muir Lea Stores
The one-stop shop down in the Bay, opposite the Laurel Inn, you can get almost everything you can think of – it’s amazing they fit it all into the shop! Just a 30 second walk from the back door at Roseworth and even better, you pass the Laurel Inn on the way for supplies. Open every day !
Walking Time: 30 seconds
Dollies Sweet Shop
Located right down on the Slipway opposite the Bay Hotel Pub, we never made it past this venue with our young kids. Dollies do ice-creams for the hot-days and a huge assortment of sweets and ‘sweet things’. Always busy and a great way to bribe the children to get out of the sea on sunny days !
Walking Time: 5 minutes
The Galley on the Quarterdeck
A relatively new addition to the catering options in the Bay, the Galley is a small cafe situated on the ‘quarterdeck’, located on the southern side of the slipway above the sea-defence along the access route to beaches towards Boggle Hole.
Handy for a coffee as you head off to walk the dog in the morning, but equally to recharge the kids with donuts and milkshakes during long summer beach days.
